Lawrence Homestead Outdoor Classroom

All Mesquite ISD students who are in third grade spend a full day learning about the historical significance of environmentalism at the Lawrence Historic Outdoor Classroom.

Their visit to the park starts with a trip through the doors of the Crownover Cabin and back to Victorian times. There, they learn how a family of four could survive in a small one-room home and live off the land. Their trip through the trail at the back of the property challenges students to think critically about how they would have assembled a meal without modern conveniences, how they would get to school, and what they would do without TV or computers.

This outdoor classroom experience would not be possible without the staff and volunteers provided by Historic Mesquite. Their hard work and dedication to this project should be commended!
