Hurlburt Field Youth Programs

The Nature Explore Classroom for Hurlburt Field Youth Programs is a unique design intended for youth ages 9-18. The classroom services military youth in our School-Age Care, Open Recreation Program, and the Teen Program. All programs are able to access the Nature Explore Classroom daily.

Youth might relax in the patio and gathering area to hang out among peers or complete homework while outside. Youth have access to different supplies such as hammocks that they use critical thinking and problem solving skills to align among the trees in the area. The newest addition to the area was an improved garden area which youth created a salsa garden watching different types of tomatoes, peppers, herbs, and onions grow.

Staff use the outdoor area to inspire youth to create artwork for the BGCA National Fine Arts Exhibit. Youth in the leadership and service club Torch Club create community service projects to maintain the area alongside staff. Youth are always involved in new plans for the area and meet monthly to discuss innovative ideas for the program. Youth Programs strives to bring together STEM and nature engagement for military youth and hopes to continue to impact military youth that will take their experiences all over the world on their next adventure.
