Kindergarten:

• Observing the trees and pond as the seasons change
• Examining items in the habitat carefully and drawing what we see
• Counting frogs we find and describing their similarities & differences
• Scavenger hunts
• Collecting and sorting items found in the habitat

 

 

PK4:

The sensory garden provides additional interactions with the outdoor environment. It is a cooperative effort where children weed, plant and explore the garden through touching, smelling, tasting and eating. The habitat provides students with the understanding that animals need certain conditions to live. Learning about the habitat teaches students about the world around them and increases their interest in nature and animals. Students explore the lifecycle of the frog in our pond as well as their habitat.

PK3:

We visited the habitat to collect items to make sun catchers. We took a nice walk around the outside playground areas before heading to the habitat. They each had their own bucket and collected leaves, sticks, and rocks on the ground. While in the habitat we found frogs in the water and counted them. They then came back to our deck to choose which items they wanted to use in their sun catcher.
