The Nature Explore Classroom at
Discovery Clubhouse Washington Terrace
Welcome to Our Nature Explore Classroom
At our center, we are proud to offer a thoughtfully designed Nature Explore Classroom that fosters
curiosity, learning, and a deep connection to the natural world. What makes our site truly special is our intentional use of reclaimed local wood and natural materials, including trees respectfully integrated into our outdoor space. The stunning Utah mountains provide a breathtaking backdrop, enriching every moment children spend exploring, playing, and learning outside.
Unique Features and Successes
Our classroom stands out with its natural seating crafted from repurposed logs and trunk pieces,
providing tactile, durable, and beautiful places for gathering and play. Our climbing and crawling area
incorporates large tree trunks, encouraging active physical play inspired by nature. The community garden-where children plant and care for squash, corn, and beans—has been a tremendous success, giving kids hands-on experience with growing food and observing the life cycle of plants.
A Living Classroom
Our space feels alive with the presence of mature trees, which provide natural shade and a sense of
personality—almost like silent friends watching over the children as they play and learn. These trees have witnessed countless joyful moments and generations of children discovering nature’s wonders. With a warm and open design, our classroom invites children to explore, imagine, and connect deeply with their environment.
Community and Family Engagement
Family involvement is a cornerstone of our program. We host regular gardening activities and family
events, including an upcoming inauguration event on June 10, 2025, welcoming families to celebrate and participate in our garden projects. Our communications keep families engaged and informed,
strengthening community bonds through shared nature experiences.
Acknowledgements and Gratitude
We are deeply grateful to the State of Utah for the Intensive Coaching Grant, which provided crucial
support to bring this program to life. Our dedicated coaches, Verlina and Jesika, played an invaluable role in guiding me through the process—offering their knowledge, insight, and endless encouragement that helped transform vision into reality. I also want to thank my incredible work family for their ongoing support: for sharing ideas, lending tools, and cheering me on during moments when I wasn’t always sure how to fully express the feelings and experiences, I wanted this space to convey. A special thank you to my kids, who understand that these long hours are passion projects I am proud to share with them, as they grow up surrounded by the spirit and joy of this center. Their belief and collaboration have been essential in creating a nurturing environment where children and families can truly connect with nature.
Looking Ahead
We are so fortunate to have the opportunity to serve future children with a space thoughtfully designed to help them make lasting memories. Our plans include expanding the gardening program, developing more nature-based learning opportunities, and continuing to foster a welcoming environment where children and families can build lifelong connections with the natural world.
