The Nature Explore Classroom at

Gathering Tree Early Learning

At Gathering Tree, childhood unfolds gently in rhythm with the natural world. Our days are guided by the seasons, each bringing its own kind of learning, beauty, and discovery. Through play-based, child-led experiences, children build confidence, curiosity and care-for themselves, for one another, and for the earth.

In the fall, we begin our journey together. the air turns crisp, new friendships take shape, and the rhythms of our days begin to settle. Children learn routines, explore familiar spaces in new ways, and witness the forest’s quiet transformation-the garden giving its last harvests, leaves drifting down, and the earth preparing for rest.

Winer invites us to slow down and adapt. The forest opens up as the greenery fades, revealing new trails and spaces to explore. Children learn to layer up, embrace the rain, and find joy in the mud and mist. It is a season of resilience and reflection, where simple discoveries-footprints in soft earth, a bird’s call in the quiet-become moments of wonder.

Spring arrives with renewal and energy. Buds form, insects return, and the garden calls us to plant and care. Children begin noticing patterns of growth and change all around them, connecting what they see to the cycles of life unfolding before them. The warmer rains and longer days invite more open-ended play, rich in imagination and collaboration.

By summer, the forest hums with life. The days stretch long, and play becomes deeply sensory-bare feet in grass, hands in the sand and soil, laughter carried on warm breezes. Water play cools the heat of the day, and the children move with a sense of freedom and joy that mirrors the fullness of the season.

Through it all, our outdoor classroom is alive and responsive. The land itself becomes teacher and guide, shaping our days and reminding us that learning happens everywhere-through touch, movement, observation, and care. The changing seasons offer endless opportunities to practice curiosity, patience and stewardship.

At Gathering Tree, we honor childhood as a meaningful journey-one that grows independence and interdependence, rooted in respect for the natural world. Every season tells part of a story. Together, they remind us that growth takes time, that beauty exists in change, and that the connection between children and nature is both timeless and essential.
