The Nature Explore Classroom at

Green Garden Child Development Center-Macomb

This will be our second certified campus and we are very excited to expand our offerings in the
community. Our outdoor classroom provides a hands-on, nature-rich learning environment for all ages but especially our young preschoolers.

It blends natural elements with interactive play zones to encourage exploration and learning through all seasons. Students have shown improved creativity, problem-solving, and social skills since engaging in daily outdoor activities. We have a policy to use the outdoor classrooms daily. Children often share stories about their adventures in the garden, where they work together to plant seeds, water the plants, and observe their growth. They engage in cooperative play, taking turns with watering cans and gardening tools, and helping each other identify different plants and insects.

As they care for the garden, they collaborate on tasks, problem-solve together, and develop a sense of responsibility. The shared experiences of nurturing the garden create strong bonds of friendship, with children often discussing their plans for what to plant next or how to protect the plants from the weather. Their teamwork and communication flourish as they enjoy the process of growing and learning together in the garden.

Parents have expressed their gratitude for the outdoor spaces, saying how much their children love the new areas for exploration. They’ve thanked us for creating an engaging environment that challenges their children’s creativity and problem-solving skills. Many appreciate how the spaces encourage outdoor play and connection to nature, enhancing their child’s overall development.
The sensory garden and outdoor Mud Kitchens are highlights that engage children’s senses and
imagination.

“This classroom brings the outdoors to life, and my child is more confident and curious than ever!”
– Sara Lawton (Luka’s Mom)

We host an annual “MUD Day” event where children and families celebrate outdoor play and exploration through mud-themed games, art activities, and nature-based challenges. The space has fostered stronger community partnerships, with local organizations offering support for
educational programs. Our community volunteers regularly clean and maintain the space to ensure it
remains safe and welcoming for all visitors.

A special thank you to our Nature team for their dedication in maintaining, adding to, and continually
enhancing our outdoor spaces. Your hard work and creativity make our environment unique and special, providing a truly engaging and inspiring space for everyone to enjoy.
