Little Pines

This past year Little Pines students spent the fall learning about seeds, chipmunks, and squirrels. Our winter was spent learning about local raptors where we went on field trips to learn more about Bald Eagles and native Owls. We celebrated the arrival of spring with a bird study. We had a pair of Barn Swallows and Red Winged Blackbirds nest on the Little Pines property. This gave us a chance to learn more about how birds build nests, the different types of nests that birds use, the different calls birds make, and the purpose of each call. It was so fun watching students grow in their knowledge of local birds: their calls, their flight patterns, their food sources, etc. It was another wonderful year of learning through play in nature!
