McGuire AFB Youth Program

5th Year Ribbon

Our youth made a compost pile and used this rich soil to grow a vegetable garden.  It was rewarding to see the seeds sprout into small plants and then to be able to harvest them.  We grew broccoli, tomatoes, cucumber and different types of lettuce.  The youth made salad from the vegetables that they cared for.

We orders some new materials from the Nature Explore Natural Products catalog to up-date our nature park “Treetopia” which included giant tree cookies, raised garden bins, at-ease benches and stump stools.  These new materials have added some nice places for our youth to sit relax while enjoying nature!

The youth love exploring the rocks, sticks, looking at bugs, adding worms to our worm box, digging in the dirt and making up short skits on the little stage we have located on our Treetopia.
