Mrs. Sandy’s Family Child Care

One of our greatest successes this year was the walk-in garden that we built and used for the first time in 2018.

We had a rough first year. Many of our plants did not grow. I did more research and took gardening training to get tips and techniques and more importantly, the time of year to plant specific vegetables. This year our garden is overflowing and doing great. We will have plenty of vegetables to share with our families. In the future, I plan to add on to our garden and add more containers around our current garden. We have learned this year that gourds and cucumbers like to vine everywhere, even where we don’t want them to. We have found they need their own space. After our failed crops last year, this year has really gotten us excited and has given us the confidence and desire to want to grow more.

The kids continue to enjoy our mud kitchen, digging for worms and water play. We are currently in the process of updating our art area with more readily available materials and to make it more visually appealing. We continue to add materials and make changes as needed to meet the needs of all children enrolled. It is exciting to see the changes we have made over the past couple of years and to have plans in place to make it better.
