The Nature Explore Classroom at

New Horizon Academy

Our outdoor classroom was created by our teachers, school management and school age kids. Our goal is to bring the classrooms outside for dirt, mess and exploration! Children learn so much about themselves by spending time outdoors.

In our art area, the children have been exploring our large easel, using paint, markers, and dirt. We also have a large chalkboard that the children use to mix chalk colors, draw, and write. We have also added twig-colored pencils and paper for the children to draw and write with outdoors. Our building area is filled with woods blocks and soft blocks for the children to build with. The area also has roads the children can set up to drive cars and trucks and make ramps with.

Our mud kitchen is used every day to make wonderful mud pies. The loose parts area is loaded with sand, rocks, pinecones and tree branches as well as pool noodles, large branches, wood, and spiral tree wraps for building and exploring with. The area also has chalkboards so the kids can record and draw what they are creating. Visit our digging in the dirt area to scoop, mix, pour, and search for bug and worms.

Our school is lucky to also have an umbrella covered space, so the classrooms are able to spend the entire day outside from drop off to pick up!

We look to continue adding new features and items to the areas to enhance the children’s outdoor experience.
