The Nature Explore Classroom at

San Jacinto College North Children’s Center and Laboratory School

The San Jacinto College North Campus Children’s Center is a laboratory school accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children.

Our outdoor classroom supports San Jacinto College’s goal of enhancing the P-16 pipeline by providing additional learning environments that support gross motor, fine motor, social, cognitive, and language development. The outdoor classroom also serves as an alternative teaching environment for San Jacinto College North Campus Children’s Center staff and students in the child development department.

San Jacinto College students are able to observe and interact with children enrolled at the North Campus Children’s Center and Laboratory School in an environmentally conscious, educationally and developmentally appropriate outdoor space. This objective aligns with another one of San Jacinto College’s institutional goals, which is to “ensure a supportive and rigorous teaching and learning environment from the classroom experience to an effective array of student support services, including personalized academic and career pathway planning.”

Twila Rose was awarded the San Jacinto College Foundation “Student Success Initiative Grant” to fund our outdoor classroom. Ms. Rose is the Senior Administrative Assistant at the San Jacinto College North Campus Children’s Center and Laboratory School.  We would like to thank Collaborative for Children, the San Jacinto College North Campus baseball team, San Jacinto College student volunteers from various departments, as well as the parents of the North Campus Children’s Center students for their support throughout the process.
