The Nature Explore Classroom at

Thanksgiving Point

Thanksgiving Point Institute’s Nature Explore Classroom is a beautiful redesign of an existing landscape. The underutilized space in the Children’s Discovery Garden has undergone a wonderful transformation.

The design process looked at how to take advantage of existing trees and plant materials. Areas were designed to be fun and simple while providing a smooth transition from one space to the next. A number of unused items were found on the property and “repurposed” into the Nature Explore Classroom.

A winding trail leads children through a series of miniature trees and other unique plants while a small creek urges children to engage in exciting boat races. One of the favorite spots in the outdoor classroom is “Lookout Tower”. This welcoming structure allows children a different vantage point to see the nature all around them.

A ribbon cutting and grand opening was conducted to engage families in the Nature Explore Classroom and to celebrate the new space. The classroom was also utilized to host a military family night in conjunction with the Operation Military Kids Program.
